CREATING OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH MUSIC BEYOND THE STAGE

Through meaningful creative learning and community partnerships Arch Sinfonia strives to remove barriers to participation to bring people together.

Our commitment to women in the arts and collaborative approaches to learning and community engagement distinguishes Arch Sinfonia. We want everyone to see themselves within the orchestra, and find autonomy and relevance in music making by being co-creators and decision makers from the offset.

ROOTS: EXPLORING SOUND WITH CREATING GROUND

Since 2025, Arch Sinfonia has been collaborating with Creating Ground CIC, a not-for-profit organisation working with women from migrant backgrounds across South East London to promote cross-cultural awareness, learning and sharing through creativity and the arts.

Roots

This intergenerational cross-arts partnership project, generously funded by the Royal Borough of Greenwich, is inspired by themes of ‘roots’ - physically and metaphorically. Working with women from Creating Ground and young people within their families and chosen families the project explores themes of our roots, heritage and belonging through music and visual art. Creative outputs will include new co-created music/soundscapes and complementary visual artworks.

Project call out for a paid art opportunity for a young person aged 16-24

Want to take part in a project collaborating with musicians and women from Creating Ground to explore our roots, our environment and help produce a visual artwork?

We are particularly keen to hear from young people from migrant backgrounds who live, study or work within the borough of Greenwich.

You may wish to apply as a solo artist or perhaps as part of a small collective, we are flexible (note the total fee available for the artwork remains).

What you’ll do:

  • We want the person to create an impression of and be inspired by the musical workshops through their medium of choice, composition and colour

  • You’ll get to work with professional orchestral musicians from Arch Sinfonia - Cellist, Hoda Jahanpour and Flautist, Ellie Knott as they develop a piece of new music with an accompanying graphic score.

  • You’ll get to collaborate with women from Creating Ground in workshops which explore their roots and heritage from multiple perspectives.

  • We want the visual and musical outputs to be complimentary to one another

  • There is the potential to do some workshop leading with Ellie and Hoda, exploring how music and sound can be translated into visual art

The artwork and new music will be showcased to the public at a sharing event on 3 December 2026, with other opportunities for display in discussion.

When will you do it?

The project will run throughout November until 3 December. Sessions to collaborate and meet the musicians and women will be on:
